It is amazing how captivating death is to people. I know this is a very morbid subject and very sad, but it's interesting how we are programmed spiritually. We were created to never die...but to have life eternally. Sin came into the picture and so did death. Nobody has to be taught how to respond when they see a newly born. It's much more difficult to respond to someone who has experienced a death in their family. Look at this passage from Hebrews 2. It's neat to see how the Bible speaks about people being held in bondage or slavery by their fear of death.
14Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for[f] the sins of the people. 18Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

oh justin tanner..i remember when i had this revelation when my dad died. for the first time i understood why it hurt so much. we were never created for it. God did not intend for us to have that separation. that is what creates that indescribable physical ache in our hearts. and i had never experienced it. i heard people say that they had been heartbroken but i couldn't identify with it. but how amazing is it that God can? that He sent His Son so that it could be a personal connection. because now when i hear of death my heart literally aches for whoever is involved. how comforting it is to know our God is that personal and cares that much that He did whatever He had to do to be able to better relate to us. pretty stinkin' awesome..awesome enough to get us through anything:)
